Bhashini Weerasinghe

Attorney Bhashini Weerasinghe is a distinguished practitioner who is dedicated to giving back to her community.  Born in Sri Lanka and growing up in Los Angeles, she brings a global  perspective that generates both practical and insightful solutions to any legal matter.  

Bhashini also works as the Director of the SDCBA-ACC Diversity Fellowship Program which places talented diverse law students with prominent law firms, in-house legal departments, and public sector agencies for paid summer fellowships.  The Program is designed to build the pipeline and move the needle on the number of diverse attorneys practicing law at every level.  

Bhashini also volunteers with the California Western School of Law’s Community Law Project.  She is the estate planning attorney for the Project, helping low income individuals in San Diego community as well as helping law students understand estate planning matters.  

Through her practice, leadership, and volunteer commitments, she works enthusiastically to better the lives of her clients and her community.  


Bhashini obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley in 2004She received her Juris Doctor from New England Law | Boston in Massachusetts in 2009. 

Bhashini is licensed to practice law in California.  

Previous Experience

Staff Attorney for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program

Before starting her own practice, Bhashini was a staff attorney at San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP).  During her tenure with SDVLP, she was responsible for providing legal assistance to terminally ill clients with a wide variety of civil legal matters such as debt relief, landlord tenant, estate planning, and administrative appeals for government benefits. Bhashini oversaw a caseload of over 150 active on-going cases at any given time, and provided services throughout San Diego County through monthly and weekly legal clinics. She coordinated a team of volunteer attorneys and law students to produce high quality free legal services to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations in San Diego. 

Volunteer Attorney for Casa Cornelia Law Center

Bhashini volunteered with Casa Cornelia Law Center handling political asylum cases for indigent clients, where she made multiple appearances before the United States Immigration Court.

Other Experience
